WordPress Website Design
Wordpress Websites by Steve Swisher (http://acts18websites.com) Here’s how I got a great looking website for under $200 total start-up cost and only $50 per year total cost for the life of our church. Overview In short: the answer is to use Wordpress. This tutorial will give you an overview of how to do it. Keep in mind I am not a web designer and I don’t know html code. Also, I am not a tech support center. In other words, don’t call me to fix your website. Call someone in your church or connected to your church that knows even a little about websites. They will be ...
Buzz Marketing (Part 1)
A while ago I read BuzzMarketing by Mark Hughes. It was recomeded to me by another church planter and is one of the best books I've read this past year. I wanted to share some highlights from the book over the next week or so. Ideas for church buzz marketing: 1. Distribute urinal screens that say something like, "Don't piss your life away on things that aren't essential." Then have church name at the bottom. Perhaps it will get some people talking. I don't know for sure, but I think Tally got the same idea from the book. (see it here) 2. Coffee distribution at a popular intersection in the morning ...
Hype Man
This post is taken from Gary Lamb's blog on December 5, 2008 at 10:38 am. One thing he was really good at was getting people excited about coming to church and what God was doing at his church. This post outlines how and why he was good at it. I found this post when I was wanting to learn more about how to better market and promote our church. When I read it I felt extremely convicted for not being excited about what God was doing at our church. It has changed the way I talk about my church and what is ...
The Legal Use of Videos
USING VIDEO CLIPS TO TEACH GOD’S WORD Before reading any of the legal information on this site, be advised that I am not a lawyer!!! I am a church planter that has looked up some information on the legal use of video for my own understanding. I am sharing with you what I have found on the internet about the subject. I have not consulted a copyright or fair use attorney or any other legal counsel. It is your responsibility to know the law and determine whether or not your use of a copywrited video is legal. Further, if you want to know more about this ...

Curb Appeal & Signs
Being a church plant has its advantages. One of them is that you can have great curb appeal on a limited budget. When you’re renting space chances are the landlord, school, or movie theater has already done their part in keeping the outside of the facility looking nice. If they haven’t talk to them and see if they will do it or partner with them supplying the labor if they will pay for the the materials (plants, paint, etc.) Normally though, to get great curb appeal all you have to do is add some signs. If you are in a good ...
No, this is not a hate piece, just the opposite. I actually like Elevation and have learned a lot from Pastor Furtick. That quote came from a guy in my church that recently moved to Charlotte, NC. Before he left, he asked me if I knew of any churches there that I would recommend. Having [...]

1. Design the website making people who have never been to your church your main priority. People who have been to your church are much more willing to click around your site to look for the information they want then people who have never been to your church. So make the stuff potential visitors want [...]

5 Things You Must Do if You’re a Frustrated Church Planter
Posted on 17. Apr, 2011 by Steve Swisher.
by Will Mancini. This post is from his site WillMancini.com on 3/18/11. If you have planted a church in the last three years, know that you are one of my heroes. What you do day in and day out requires more courage, sacrifice and perseverance than 90% of roles in ministry (at least in North [...]

This post is from GaryLamb.org on June 29th, 2010. I know of five pastors (yes you read that right) who have resigned from their churches due to affairs in the last month, so I thought it might be worth the repost. I have edited a little of it so it makes sense, but I’m telling [...]

By Ed Stetzer The resurging interest in church planting has prompted a growing number of pastors and churches to ponder the value of planting new churches. Part of this deliberation inevitably involves the merits of planting independently versus partnering with other churches or networks. Many have found that church planting partnerships provide strengths and opportunities [...]

When you’re planting a church, there’s a temptation to call yourself a church too soon. Everyone knows what a church is. Everyone also has their own definition of what a church is. Chances are, what you have in the early stages of church planting looks nothing like anyone’s definition of a church. Which means that [...]

What do you call yourself before you have your public launch? There’s a temptation to use the word “church” too soon. The problem with the word “church” is that it carries with it expectations that you can’t meet. When people think of a church, they think of things like: worship music/leader full band nursery kid’s [...]

Book Review: When Leadership and Discipleship Collide (Part 2 of 2)
Posted on 11. Feb, 2011 by Steve Swisher.
Since ministry is the most important task with eternal consequences, church leaders should make every effort to be the best leaders in the world. Every ministry leader ought to take advantage of the leadership wisdom learned and passed on from others. The stakes are too high to not be a good leader. Most of the [...]
